Azad Ali and Shakayet Hussain

United Sporting Luton Football Club was formed on the 6th day of February 2003 by close friends Shakayet Hussain and Azad Ali. Both love the beautiful game and desired to make their own football team. The finance was supplied by a successful local businessman Abdul Haque, owner of the acclaimed Methi Restaurant chain.

 

The first USL Squad

The club began life playing friendlies and their first competitive matches were played on July 2003 when they entered the competitive Sportsman Dunstable FC's 11 a side tournament. In August 2003 the club became affiliated to the Bedfordshire Football Association and month later was elected to play in the Luton Sunday Football League.

Club history in chronological order:-

August 2002 - Shakayet Hussain and Azad Ali discuss the possiblity of forming a football team that sets the standards for others to pursue.

October 2002 - Extensive research was implemented to find out how best to start the club and which league to enter. Advice was taken from the wider footballing community.

January 2003 - Three new faces join the board, Mahbubur Rahman Shaan, Nazmul Uddin and Sam Miah. History will call this group as the 'Forefathers'.

February 2003 - After a lengthy discussion, the board conclude that the club will be called United Sporting Luton (USL). Other names considered were Luton Kings, Luton United and Sparta Luton.

March 2003 - Methi owner Abdul Haque becomes Chief Financier of USL. Dr. Ajaz Zamarad becomes President along with Anam Hussain as Chairman.

July 2003 - USL become affiliated with Bedfordshire Football Association and all football equipment and training facilities is made available.

August 2003 - USL join the Luton Luton Sunday Football League. First competitive games took place in the annual Sportsman Dunstable FC's 11 a side tournament. Fourteen teams participated in the event and USL are defeated by Lewsey FC in the Semi Finals. Sam Miah departs the club due to personal matters.

September 2003 - First game against Friends United (Friendly).

September 2005 - Kukon Ali joins USL as Coach.

March 12th 2006 - USL go through to the Beds Centenary Cup final after deafeating Bedford Pad 5-1.

April 30th 2006 - USL are Runners up in the Centenary Cup, losing 4-0 after extra time to AFC Chalk Hill.

May 2006 - Kukon Ali resigns as Coach by mutual consent.

June 5th 2006 - Deputy Headmaster of Icknield High School, Steve Blackhurst appointed as first team manager. Azad Ali becomes Assistant Manager.

June 5th 2006 - Barket Mortgage and Finance become new club sponsor.

July 4th 2006 - USL become new sponsor of The Luton Sunday League.

October 11th 2006 - Bashir Ahmed of Barket Group made Club President and Dr. Azad Zamarad becomes Vice Chair.

May 20th 2007 - USL Harts was established. Steven Gale appointed Coach and Manager.

May 30th 2007 - Ramblers Eleven merge with USL to become USL Rams with Kamrul Haque as Manager. USL Galacticos is also formed today.

June 26th 2007 - USL are proud winners of the Bedfordshire Charter Standard Adult Cub of the Year Award, as well as, East Region Charter Standard Adult Club of the Year Award.

June 2007 - USL Masters commenced as a summer team.

September 2007 - USL Harts stopped until further notice.

November 10th 2007 - Peter Wilson takes charge of Galacticos as Manager.

June 21st 2008 - USL Galacticos play in first ever East Of England Umbro Fives.

July 7th 2008 - USL Galacticos win Beds FA Top Discipline Award

March 2009 - USL Rams become finalists of the League Cup 2009.

April 2009 - USL Galacticos finish runners up in division 2 of the LDSB.

May 2009 - USL Rams finish runners up in the Luton Sunday League.

June 2009 - USL Merge with Dean Ashton and David Mitchell's Red Star to become USL Red Star.
