USL Rams
sealed their first ever league championship with an emphatic
6-0 victory at LA Rovers on Sunday. Despite being on the
back foot for most of the first half, the lads eventually
produced the form which shows just why they are worthy
winners of the Luton Sunday League this season. Going
into the game, manager Kieran Fay knew that his side only
needed a point to claim the tite and he was fortunate
in the fact that he had a near full strength side to choose
from, with John Shinkaiye being the only notable absentee.
Dean Bradley came straight in to replace him at right
midfield.
In the opening exchanges, both sides had a good share
of possession but were failing to utilise it properly.
However, this soon changed on the half hour mark as Rams
took the lead thanks to a good finish from Brendan Fay.
The midfielder was able to cooly slot past the keeper
after getting away from his marker. After this, LA Rovers
started to push for an equaliser, resulting in USL having
to defend for a prolonged period. Although they generally
coped with every attack, the score at half time would
have been 1-1 if it wasnt for a fantastic save from Daniel
Coady. The goalkeeper was able to push the ball on to
the crossbar following a header from a Rovers player.
The second half was surprisingly a comfortable affair
for the Rams, who after creating a few chances to begin
with, were soon able to turn these into goals. Simon Ridgeway
got the vital second on the hour mark, following a good
lay off from Dean Bradley. Ridgeway was able to smash
the ball past the keeper and in to the top right hand
corner with ease. Ridgeway soon got himself a second not
long after, although it could have been prevented. The
striker's shot from just outside the area was fumbled
by the Rovers keeper. This goal seemed to drain the confidence
out of LA, which as a result led to three more goals.
Brendan Fay was able to grab his second and Rams fourth
with 20 minutes to go after his low shot in the area was
good enough to beat the defence and settle itself into
the net. A few minutes later, Terry Taverner was able
to grab his first goal in four games, as he was able to
turn the defender and bury his shot into the bottom corner.
Finally, Ridgeway got his sixth hat trick of the season
(albeit quite selfishly lol) after converting James McConnachie's
low cross. The final whistle went not long after. The
dream had now become a reality.

USL Rams
were given all three points on Sunday after their opponents,
Team BYL, forfeited the match after 40 minutes. BYL, who
were 2-0 down at the time, disagreed with a decision made
by the referee, who sent off one of their players for
dissent. In protest, they walked off the pitch, automatically
giving up the game. It was a sad way to end what was otherwise
a good match. Both teams had good opening exchanges and
it was certainly a tight affair for the first 20 minutes.
The game changed however, when Rams were awarded a penalty
for handball. Ridgeway duly converted the penalty. BYL
started to push for an equaliser and if it wasnt for a
fantastic save from Daniel Coady, they could have easily
got it. Nevertheless, USL recovered and were able to double
their lead a few minutes later. A long ball forward from
Brendan Fay found Ridgeway again, who was able to smash
the ball past the keeper for his 29th goal of the season.
The game ended not long after. As
a result of this 'win', USL now need one point from their
next four games to become Champions.

Rams are
potentially 90 minutes away from the league title after
sweeping aside Rising Sun 7-2 at Barnfield on Sunday.
The lads were able to show their clinical side, as they
practically took every chance that was available to them.
Kieran Fay made two changes from last weeks victory over
Rhinos, with Dean Bradley coming in to replace John Shinkaiye
on the wing. There was also a return for Dean Joy, who
replaced an injured Craig Savage at left back. Despite
the opening exchanges being dominated in the midfield,
it wasnt long before the game had its first goal. Simon
Ridgeway was able to beat his marker for pace on the right
hand side and hit the ball across the keeper into the
bottom corner of the net. USL continued the pressure and
they were rewarded with a second goal from Brendan Fay
a few minutes later. Rams were now taking hold of the
game, however, against the run of play, Rising Sun were
gifted a goal thanks to a defensive mix up between Sean
Maloney and Daniel Coady. As the ball came over, Maloney
was instantly put under pressure by the Sun's striker
and as a result, had no other option but to clear the
ball with his head. Unfortunately, the Rams skipper headed
it a bit too sweetly, resulting in the ball looping over
Coady and into the goal. Comical stuff really. Nonetheless,
USL pushed on and they were able to get a third soon after.
Charlie Betts was able to head the ball down towards goal
from a Rams cross, allowing Ridgeway to nip in and grab
his second of the game.
In the second half, Ridgeway continued his goal scoring,
adding a further 3 goals to his tally. His third, and
Rams fourth, came after he ran down the left hand wing
and coolly slotted the ball past the keeper. Next, he
was able to poke the ball in after a mix up in the Suns
defence to make it 5-1 and, despite Rising Sun grabbing
a second goal, he was then able to grab his fifth of the
game after again beating his marker and finishing superbly.
To wrap up the match,
Maloney was able to make up for his earlier error by tapping
the ball in at the far post.
USL celebrated at the
end, but the real celebrations can come next week if they
better Renegades result...

Ben Savage
got his first ever goal for USL Rams as they swept aside
Luton Rhinos 8-0 at Barnfield on Sunday. It was a deserved
victory for the lads, who were never in any danger of
letting this be anything but a win. However, it could
have easily been by a wider margin had simple opportunities
been converted. The game kicked off with Rams immediately
on top. Luton Rhinos couldn't handle the constant pressure
and it wasnt long before chances were being created. A
lot of the play was being pushed out to the right hand
side, which allowed Shahid to exploit their left back
on several occasions. After missing several opportunities,
USL finally broke the deadlock after 25 minutes. Craig
Savage took a shot from around 25 yards out, which then
took a slight deflection and found its way into the net.
This was the goal which seemed to open up Rhinos for good
as USL went 2-0 up a few minutes later. Shahid once again
beat the Rhinos left back and was then able to send in
a cross, allowing Ridgeway to score a great header past
the diving keeper. The half time whistle blew soon after.
In the second half, Rams went goal crazy. A third goal
came from Brendan Fay, who was able to drill a low shot,
from a tight angle, straight past the keeper. A few minutes
later, John Shinkaiye was in the right place at the right
time as he made it 4-0. The little man bundled the ball
in after the keeper saved from Ridgeways' initial shot.
With 25 minutes
to go, Maloney made the game beyond doubt as he got his
first and USL's 5th goal of the game by heading the ball
home from a Kieran Fay corner. Ten minutes later, Brendan,
who should have had a double hat-trick today, got his
second goal of the game as he diverted a bullet header
into the net after another good ball into the box by Kieran.
You'd think that after scoring six goals Rams would settle
down and let the game die down a bit. Did they? Course
not. They made it seven after Aaron Bradley found Maloney
on the edge of the six yard box, who simply couldnt miss.
The scoring finally finished with five minutes to go as
Rams made it 8-0 in what was arguably the moment of the
season. Maloney passed the ball to the feet of Ben Savage,
who controlled and slotted the ball past the keeper with
his weaker foot. Cue wild celebrations from believe it
or not, both sets of players, who rejoiced in the big
striker finally getting on the score sheet after 7 appearances.
Talking of 7, that's the amount of points now needed to
secure the title for USL...

Rams 2 Chalton Athletic
|
Terry Taverner
struck a dramatic, injury-time winner as USL Rams kept
their title charge on track with a vital 2-1 win against
Chalton Athletic side on Sunday. The lads were pushed
all the way by their much improved opponents, however
they were able to dig deep and secure a very important
three points. Rams started with the majority of their
first choice XI, with the only changes coming in midfield.
Areeb Choudhury and Darren George both replaced John Shinkaiye
and Brendan Fay respectively.
The first
half started with Rams having the better of possession,
but failing to ultimately do anything with it. The only
clear cut chance came from Taverner, who forced a good
save from the Chalton keeper after 25 minutes. Afterwards,
play was mainly held in the middle of the park and it
was no surprise that the scoreline was 0-0 at half time.
In the second
half, the game started to become a lot more open, with
the ball starting to be played out to the wings more.
As a result, USL created more openings. Charlie Betts
had several opportunities, however his efforts proved
to be unfounded. Both strikers also had chances, but Chaltons
goalkeeper came to the rescue both times. With all this
pressure, you would have put your money on USL getting
the first goal of the game. However, they were dealt a
sucker punch minutes later. Chalton Athletic took the
lead with half hour to go after some sloppy defending
from the Rams defence. A high ball from Chaltons winger
fell to the feet of their forward, who was able to cross
the ball in to allow his team mate to tap the ball in
from a yard. There were cries for offside from the Rams
defence, but it proved to be to no avail. USL now had
to dig deep to try and save the match. George and Choudhury
were replaced by Ben Savage and Chris Malone with 25 mins
to go, with the hope of a fresh pair of legs being the
difference for the Rams (well in Malones' case anyway!).
USL continued with the pressure but more chances were
being missed. However, with 7 minutes to go, Rams won
a free kick just past the halfway line. The resulting
ball fell to Dean Joy, who's shot was only parried by
the keeper into the path of Simon Ridgeway, who headed
the ball home. Game on.
USL were
now pushing for a winner and their efforts were rewarded
deep into injury time. Malone gave the ball to Taverner,
who was able to drive a shot straight into the corner
of the Chalton goal. Cue wild celebrations from everyone
associated with USL, as they knew how important a win
was in this title race. The lads have won ugly to get
all three points today... but surely that's the sign of
Champions...right?

Rams 5 Renegades 8 (League Cup QF)
|
Its the league
or bust for the Rams this season. A game that started
in the best possible way quickly turned into an absolute
nightmare for the lads as Luton Renegades ended up 8-5
winners in today's League Cup Quarter Final. With
a host of players out due to injuries, manager Kieran
Fay had to do with a make shift defence of himself, Joy,
Maloney and McConnachie. John Shinkaiye also returned
from injury to partner Brendan Fay in midfield; Choudhury
and Ben Savage made up the bench.
The match couldn't have started any better for USL, who
went 2-0 up within seconds. Practically from the kick
off , Simon Ridgeway was put through on goal and was able
to easily slot the ball home. Moments later, Terry Taverner
scored after beating two Renegades defenders and poking
the ball past the diving keeper. Rams
continued with the pressure for the next few minutes,
but all of a sudden, Renegades pulled a goal back after
a nicely worked counter attack was converted by their
centre forward. Not letting this minor set back affect
them, USL then went on and scored a third, with Ridgeway
managing to get his second goal of the game. Terry then
continued the scoring competition between him and his
partner by getting Rams fourth goal after superbly beating
his marker and squeezing the ball past the keeper at the
near post.
So after half an hour, the score was 4-1. However, you
could tell by the way that this match was being played
that there would easily be more goals and this soon proved
to be the case. Luton Renegades were able to grab two
quick goals right before half time, the first being a
carbon copy of the goal they had scored earlier and the
second after a poorly defended corner. Following
this, Rams quickly re-established their original two goal
lead after being awarded a penalty deep into stoppage
time. Ridgeway duly converted, making it 5-3 at half time.
A memorable first half then, but not even the most imaginative
of people could have predicted what would happen in the
second. For some
unknown reason, USL completely and utterly fell apart.
The good passages of play that was present in the first
half had been resorted to ineffective route one football.
As a result, they were quickly put to the sword by a revitalised
Renegades side, who quickly exploited the gaps in defence
and were soon able to not only score the goals to pull
themselves level, but also make the scoreline embarrassing.
It finished 8-5, giving Rams their worst defeat of the
season.
If ever there was a match to prove that football is played
over 90 minutes, this was it.

USL Rams
reclaimed top spot in the league after thrashing Luton
Rhinos 5-0 on Sunday. Despite taking a while to get going,
Rams soon showed their quality, easily outclassing their
opponents in the end.
The match started with the lads immediately on top, as
Rhinos tried to avoid going behind early on. With chances
not being taken though, it allowed the game to become
a lot more balanced, with Rhinos even having a great opportunity
to score in the 20th minute. USL needed to settle down
and regroup, as they knew that as soon as one goal was
scored, they could push on and add more. It wasnt long
before this theory was put into practice as Simon Ridgeway
broke the deadlock after 25 minutes, successfully beating
his marker and drilling a low shot past the diving keeper.
Rams then doubled their lead three minutes later with
Brendan Fay converting on the ball on the volley after
good work on the left hand side by Ishi. Rhinos were constantly
under pressure following this and were probably pleased
to hear the half time whistle.
The second half began in the same fashion as the first
one ended - USL on top, with great opportunities falling
to several of the players. Inevitably, the lads made it
3-0 with Ridgeway grabbing his second of the game, coolly
slotting the ball home after good work from the midfield.
The pressure continued and before you knew it, two goals
were scored within seconds of each other. Firstly, Shahid
was able to convert a simple tap in to make it 4-0 after
another good piece of play from out wide; and Ridgeway
eventually completed his hat trick after a nice finish
from the edge of the area. After that, the game seemed
to fizzle out, with the only highlight being Ben Savage's
superb piece of skill to beat a Rhino's defender. Unfortunately,
he wasnt able to deliver the cross that such brilliance
deserved.
Nonetheless it was a good result for the Rams, who now
just need 5 more wins to secure their first league title
in their history.

|
USL Rams
grabbed their first win of the new year as they defeated
Team BYL by 3 goals to 1 at Barnfield on Sunday. It was
their best performance in a long time and one which should
install some much needed confidence into the side. Once
again, manager Kieran Fay chopped and changed the side,
bringing in newcomer Darren George to slot in at centre
back alongside Sean Maloney. There were also returns for
Carlo Romano, Charlie Betts and Chris Malone who all took
up their known positions on the pitch whereas James Whitty
and Aaron Bradley made up the subs bench. Rams seemed
to be up for the game straight from the kick off as there
passing and general movement was much improved from previous
weeks, leading to a few early opportunities. Eventually,
the breakthrough came after 12 minutes. Craig Savage threw
an extremely long throw right into the heart of the BYL
penalty box, allowing Malone to tap the ball in from the
far side. USL continued to push on for the rest of the
half and could have easily doubled their lead, with Charlie
Betts and Simon Ridgeway going close on several occasions.
BYL also had one or two opportunities which on another
day, would have been converted. Despite all that, the
score remained 1-0 at half time.
The second half started
in similar fashion, with both teams having good chances
to score; but it wasnt until the 60th minute that the
ball hit the back of the net again. Terry Taverner grabbed
his 18th goal of the season after pouncing on to a through
ball from the midfield and stabbing the ball home. Rams
seemed to settle after this and made several substitutions.
However, as the new players were settling into the game,
Team BYL pulled a goal back from absolutely nowhere. After
a few passes in the midfield, the BYL striker got the
ball and struck a low shot into the bottom corner of the
goal. Following
this, BYL started to take control of the game, looking
for a crucial equaliser. However, their momentum was completely
halted when USL got their third of the game with 5 minutes
to go. Charlie Betts won the ball on the far side and
sent a looping cross right to the back of the BYL goal,
allowing James Whitty to tap the ball in with ease.

Rams 0 Renegades 1
|
USL suffered their
second league defeat of the season as they lost 1-0 to
Luton Renegades at Barnfield College on Sunday. It wasn't
the greatest of Rams performances, however the lads cannot
deny that they had the opportunities to get something
out of this game. Three changes were made from the team
knocked out in the County Cup last time out. Areeb Choudhury
and Dean Bradley came in for John Shinkaiye and Charlie
Betts, who were both carrying knocks, whereas Craig Savage
was only fit enough for a place on the bench. Therefore,
this led to a return for Michael Waldock, who was making
his first start for the Rams since pre-season.
The game started off quietly with
most of the play being controlled by Renegades in the
midfield. Rams were trying hard to change this but they
were giving away too many silly balls allowing several
opportunities for their opponents to break the deadlock,
which fortunately, they didn't take. The sloppy play continued
right up to half time, where Manager Kieran was very quick
to reiterate to his players how important this match was
and that if they failed to raise their game, then they
were going to be punished for it. The team talk seemed
to work as Rams came out for the second half a lot more
positively and this reflected in their play. The ball
was sent out wide on several occasions and they weren't
far from taking the lead. However, on the 70th minute,
they were dealt a hammer blow.
Renegades were able to take the
lead after a misplaced free kick somehow managed to get
behind the Rams defence, allowing one of their players
to poke the ball home from close range. Upon reflection,
the free kick could have been avoided. However, it wasnt
a time to point the blame at people, it was time for USL
to push for an all important equaliser, one which they
came close to on several occasions. Chances fell to Bradley,
Taverner, Brendan and even Maloney, but none of them were
successful. With the clock ticking, it was becoming clear
that USL were going all out to grab an equaliser, one
which they thought they grabbed with literally the last
move of match.
A corner was put in from the far
side by Brendan, the ball was then headed back towards
goal by Simon Ridgeway and after a few fumbles by the
keeper, Maloney diverted the ball home. Rams went crazy
with celebration, but their hearts sank when the referee,
advised by the linesman, ruled the goal out for a foul
on the keeper! The lads couldn't believe what just happened
and it was made worse when the final whistle went straight
afterwards. The result knocked Rams off of top spot for
the first time since the start of the season, but be assured
that the lads will do all they can to make sure that this
is just a temporary move.

Arms 3 USL Rams 2 (Beds FA Centenary Cup QF)
|
Six weeks
without a game can take its toll on most teams and unfortunately
for USL Rams, this was the case. They were knocked out
of the Bedfordshire Centenary Cup today, a disappointing
performance resulting in a 3-2 defeat to Gardeners Arms.
USL started with the same XI that defeated AFC Compasses
9-1 in the last round, with the only changes coming on
the subs bench as Ben Savage and Dean Bradley replaced
the absent Carlo Romano and James McConnachie. The match
started out quietly as both teams did their best to get
as much possession as possible, therefore leading to play
being dominated in the midfield. The game seemed to liven
up however, after approximately 15 minutes when John Shinkaiye
was the victim of a late tackle, resulting in Bradley
coming on to replace him. This seemed to open things up
slightly, but it wasnt until after half hour that the
match had its first goal. G.
Arms went 1-0 up after some very sloppy play from USL.
Brendan Fay was dispossessed in the midfield and the ball
was then delivered out wide. A cross was then sent straight
into the box, allowing their centre forward to head the
ball home. A nice move, but one that could have been prevented.
Following this, Rams seemed to panic. They wernt able
to string any passes together or even control the ball.
So it was quite surprising when an equaliser came out
of the blue a few minutes before half time. Terry Taverner
picked up the ball around the half way line and after
beating 2 men down the wing, he was able to put across
a simple pass to Simon Ridgeway who simply couldn't miss.
Following a stern half time talk from Kieran, USL started
the second half more positively. Play was being held more
in the oppositions half and Rams certainly had a few chances
to take the lead. However, after 65 minutes and following
Rams pressure, Gardeners Arms were able to make it 2-1.
Following a quick counter attack , the striker was able
to produce an exquisite lob, leaving goalkeeper Coady
in no mans land.
Morale seemed to drop significantly afterwards and it
wasnt long before USL conceded a third. After a mix up
between the defence and midfield, the opposition striker
was able to reproduce a copy of the second goal, all but
sealing Gardeners Arms place in the Semi Finals. USL
did get renewed hope in the 85th minute when Charlie Betts
was able to bundle the ball home, but it simply wasnt
Rams day. They must now make sure that this result was
nothing more then a blip, so they can continue their good
form in the league

Rams 3 Renegades 2
|
USL Rams
edged out a hard fought encounter today as they defeated
second place Luton Renegades 3-2 at Barnfield on Sunday.
Although it wasnt the most memorable of games, the result
will certainly go a long way in deciding who will top
the table come the end of the season.
Kieran Fay woke up on Sunday with a selection headache
as midfield talisman Charlie Betts pulled out of the game
hours before kick off with a twisted ankle. With Craig
Savage also unavailable due to tonsillitis, Brendan Fay
was used as a make shift centre back. Fay also handed
debuts to Ryan Morrison and Saidu Bah, who both took up
the vacant midfield positions.
Rams took the game to their opponents straight from the
kick off and were rewarded for their pressure within two
minutes. Terry Taverner was able to convert following
a cut back from Ishtiaq Shahid, who done well to beat
his marker on the wing.
USL continued to create more chances and were unlucky
not to double their lead. Simon Ridgeway had a great opportunity
saved by the Renegades keeper and Taverner could have
easily made it 2-0 on a few occasions. However, the next
goal came from Renegades who seemed to score from absolutely
nothing. One of their strikers was able to pick the ball
up and drill the ball into the bottom right hand corner,
catching Daniel Coady off guard in the process. After
this, the game was more evenly matched.
The second half started in the same fashion as the first,
with more chances being created by the Rams and it wasnt
long before they went ahead again. Kieran Fay took a free
kick from around 35 yards out with the intention of putting
the ball into the box, however, with the rising wind behind
him, the ball went straight into the top corner of the
goal. A fluke... Yes. Did Kieran care? No.
After this, Rams seemed to sit back and allow Renegades
to chase for a precious equaliser and unfortuantely this
soon came as a result of poor defending. One of their
players were left totally unmarked in the area and was
easily able to head the ball in from a cross on the right
hand side. This was again a blow for USL.
The game seemed to be heading for a draw until the 75th
minute, when Terry was able to get USLs winner after drilling
the ball home thanks to a good assist from Simon Ridgeway.
And despite late Renegades pressure, Rams were able to
hold on to a priceless victory.

Team
BYL 1 USL Rams 5
|
USL Rams
got back to winning ways on Sunday as they defeated Team
BYL by 5 goals to 1. Although it wasn't a vintage Rams
performance, the result will give them a much needed confidence
boost for the rest of the season.
Rams made two changes
to the team that lost to LA Rovers last time out. Daniel
Coady returned to goalkeeping duties, allowing Kieran
Fay to replace Aaron Bradley at right back. Charlie Betts
was also unavailable for today's game, so James McConnachie
was given the job of bossing the midfield. Finally, Ben
Porter was in the squad for the first time since the opening
day, albeit on the bench.
The conditions, once again,
were atrocious. USL were forced to play the first half
of this game against the wind and rain and therefore,
it wasn't a surprise that it was BYL who started the brighter.
Rams found themselves defending for their lives for the
first 15 minutes or so until eventually they started playing.
However, even this was brief, as silly errors in the defence
were giving BYL opportunities to score.
Eventually, BYL did take
the lead. A long ball came from the midfield which caught
Areeb Choudhury off guard, allowing the forward to cut
inside and take a shot at Coady. Although he done well
to parry it away, he could only do so to BYL's number
10 who simply tapped the ball into an empty net. USL finished
the half on the back foot and were lucky to be only 1-0
down at the break.
The second half started
with the Rams knowing that with the wind and rain behind
them, they would be able to attack a lot more and pile
on the pressure. This was exactly what happened, as opportunities
fell to the likes of Kieran (who was unlucky not to score),
Brendan Fay and Areeb Choudhury (who DEFINATELY should
have scored). It was becoming a matter of when and not
if USL would grab that crucial goal.
After what seemed an eternity,
they finally equalised. Terry Taverner played a back heel
through ball onto John Shinkaiye, who ran in and slotted
the ball home. As a result of this, the floodgates seemed
to open as USL went goal crazy over the next ten minutes.
They took the lead thanks
to Ben Porter, who picked up the ball on the halfway line
and after carrying for 10 or so yards, smashed the ball
in. Simple really
Next, Ishtiaq Shahid got his name
on the score sheet to make it 3-1, albeit controversially.
Brendan had crossed the ball into the box and it looked
like Ishi had controlled the ball with his arm before
shooting into the bottom corner. Just like the Irish did
in France last week, BYL complained to the referee, but
it was to no avail, the goal had been given.
A few minutes later, Terry
Taverner got in on the act by scoring from what seemed
an impossible angle. He was practically by the corner
flag when he had his shot, which lobbed the keeper and
went into the far corner. Finally, Sean Maloney (CB only)
got his second goal of the season after beating his marker
on the edge of the box and sending the ball home, securing
Rams 8th league win of the season in the process.

USL
Rams 2 Luton Rovers 4
|
The run is
over.
USL Rams lost their 100% record today as they were convincingly
beaten 4-2 by a rampant LA Rovers side. There can be no
arguments as to who was the better team, as LA took the
game to their opponents and got the result they thoroughly
deserved.
One change was made from last weeks win against Carpenters
Arms as Aaron Bradley returned to the Rams line up to
replace Daniel Coady. As a result of this absence, Kieran
Fay was given goalkeeper duties. Finally, Dean Bradley
returned to the bench after a month away.
Once again, Rams had a lacklustre start to the game and
it was no surprise that they went a goal down within minutes.
The ball was played straight from midfield and through
the Rams defence, allowing the ball to be clinically finished
by the Rovers striker.
Usually this sort of setback would get USL going and thus
lead them to play the football we all know they can produce.
However, if anything, Rams started to panic and allowed
Rovers to pile on even more pressure. Therefore, it was
quite a surprise when out of nothing, USL equalised. Simon
Ridgeway was controversially fouled on the edge of the
area by a Rovers defender and as a result, Terry Taverner
grabbed his 9th league goal of the season from the resulting
free kick.
Rams were seemingly now back in the game. But unfortunately,
the scoreline didn't stay the same for long. Craig Savage
committed a foul just outside the penalty box and, like
USL had done a few minutes earlier, LA Rovers were able
to put themselves 2-1 up from the awarded free kick.
In the second half, USL's play was slightly better, as
they started to press for that precious equaliser. However,
just when it looked like happening, Rovers were able to
get themselves on the score sheet again. Rams conceded
a corner on the far side and due to some poor marking,
the ball was headed in from the Rovers striker to make
it 3-1.
This was a massive blow to the Rams and it showed. They
never seemed to fully recover from this setback although
they were able to get a second goal through Areeb Choudhury,
who superbly finished at the far post. This was following
a nice drop of the shoulder and a good one-two with Dean
Bradley.
The Rams then threw everyone forward in an attempt to
grab an equaliser, however this ultimately led to them
being short at the back and consequently, it wasn't long
until LA Rovers wrapped the game up. Beating the offside
trap, the Rovers striker ran almost 30 yards before crossing
the ball over to his teammate to finish the move off at
the far post.
Just goes to show that you cant take anything for granted
in this league.

Rams 2 Carpenter Arms 1 (Beds FA Centenary Cup R2)
|
USL Rams
are through to the 3rd Round of the Beds Centenary Cup
after defeating Carpenters Arms by 2 goals to 1 at Barnfield
on Sunday. As the scoreline suggests, it was a very close
game which on a different day, could have gone another
way.
Manager Kieran Fay made two changes from the team that
beat Rising Sun last week. Aaron Bradley (unavailable)
and Carlo Romano (knee) made way for John Shinkaiye and
Areeb Choudhury whilst James McConnachie and Ben Savage
retained their places on the bench.
The weather today was dreadful and it was clear to see
that due to the heavy rain and gale force winds, play
was going to be very difficult for both sides. Nonetheless,
USL started the first half with the wind in their favour
and it was no surprise that they dominated play as a result.
Early chances from various members of the team were going
close but it wasnt until the half hour that the breakthrough
finally came.
Areeb Choudhury picked up the ball on the half way line
and after carrying it for ten or so yards, drilled it
deep into the penalty area, allowing Simon Ridgeway to
get the faintest of touches to divert the ball home. This
goal gave Rams the momentum to push forward and it wasn't
long before they doubled their lead. Ridgeway was able
to get his second goal of the game after coolly slotting
the ball between the keepers legs after having the ball
thread through the Carpenters defence from midfield.
USL could have gone on and added more goals but it wasnt
meant to be. As half time approached, they knew that as
a result of the poor weather they would have to defend
like theyve never defended before.
That theory got off to the worst possible start as Rams
conceded within minutes of the 2nd half beginning. A long
ball from Carpenters defence led to Choudhury stretching
for the ball and kicking it high into the air. A lack
of communication then led to the Rams defence leaving
the ball, resulting in Daniel Coady being out of position.
Due to the bounce and corresponding weather, the ball
went over his head and straight into the net. Comical
stuff really. USL now simply had to get their heads clear
and give a back-to-the-wall job, which they did superbly.
Coady was able to recover from his conceded goal and collect
every ball possible whilst the duo of Sean Maloney and
Charlie Betts led their line brilliantly. On the odd occasion,
Rams even had chances to kill the game off with opportunities
falling to Ishtiaq Shahid and Shinkaiye but again, they
failed to convert.
Although Carpenters Arms had chance after chance following
this, they were not able to grab that crucial second goal.
After what seemed an eternity, the referee finally blew
the full time whistle.
Job Done.

RISING
SUN Oct 25th 2009

USL
Rams 3 Rising Sun 2
|
USL Rams
won a hard fought contest at Barnfield College today as
they defeated Rising Sun by three goals to two. It was
the first time this season that the Rams had to dig deep
to secure victory, as their opponents more than proved
that they were up for the occasion.
Once again, changes were
made to the Rams squad prior to kick off. Aaron Bradley
and Dale Holland returned to the starting line up to replace
James Whitty and Areeb Choudhoury. Also, Terry Taverner
returned to take his usual position up front. Finally,
there were two new faces on the Rams bench this week,
James McConnachie and Ben Savage.
For once, it wasnt
actually the Rams who started the brighter, as Rising
Sun practically ran the game for the first few minutes,
passing the ball about and putting USLs defence
to the test. This pressure eventually gave them their
first goal of the game, with a cross from the near side
headed in by their striker. This was the wakeup call the
Rams needed and it wasnt long before they brought
the scores level. Ishtiaq Shahid picked up the ball on
the halfway line and after carrying the ball for ten or
so yards, drilled the ball into the top right hand corner.
Steven Gerrard would have been proud!
Following this, USL applied
the pressure. Chances started to come thick and fast,
particularly for Simon Ridgeway, who was unlucky not to
score with a header at the far post. Kieran Fay also had
a good opportunity to score, however his effort was just
wide. Finally after 35 minutes, Rams went ahead. Terry
Taverner was able to grab his 9th goal of the season after
coolly slotting the ball past the keeper at the far post
after beating his marker on the edge of the area.
In the second half, the wind had picked up dramatically
and as a result, it gave USL limited options in terms
of distributing the ball. After around ten minutes of
adjusting, Brendan Fay scored what will certainly be a
goal of the season contender. With the ball coming to
him just outside the area, he hit the ball on the half
volley into the top corner of the goal.
In previous games this season, USLs opponents have
usually backed off once Rams have increased their advantage,
however, to Rising Suns credit they kept going. As a result
of the wind, it was proving very difficult for the Rams
to clear their lines and soon enough, Rising got themselves
back into the game. With the ball coming from midfield,
their right winger somehow managed to squeeze the ball
in from quite an acute angle.
This goal gave them fresh optimism for the final 15 minutes,
with the trail of thought being that they could grab at
least a point from this game. As a result, Rising Sun
piled men forward. To make matters slightly worse for
USL, Romano had picked up a serious injury. Therefore,
due to all three substitutes being used, Rams had to play
the last few minutes with ten men. Although practically
all the possession was in USL's half, they still had two
opportunities to score. Ben Savage had the chance to strike
towards goal, however he failed to control the ball in
the box. Finally, Kieran Fay had an opportunity whilst
running through on goal, but the Sun's defender was able
to make the tackle.
Despite all the pressure, Rams were able to hold on for
a precious three points, a result which now gives them
a 9 point lead at the top of the Luton Sunday League table.

Rams 10 Chalton Athletic 0

Ben Savage
Reporting
Simon Ridgeway
grabbed a hat trick as USL Rams swept aside Chalton Athletic
10-0 at Barnfield College on Sunday. It was another performance
full of goals for the Rams, who have now found the back
of the net 38 times this season. USL made two changes
from the side that thrashed One Nation last weekend. Ridgeway
returned to replace Terry Taverner, who was away for today's
game. James Whitty started his final game before his two
month ban, with John Shinkaiye dropping to the bench.
Just like last week, the Rams started the brighter of
the two teams and the early pressure led to the first
goal of the game coming after 90 seconds. Craig Savage
carried the ball down the left wing and drilled a low
cross into the box, only for one of the Chalton defenders
to divert the ball into his own net. Savage also played
a part in the Rams second goal, which came after fifteen
minutes. After picking up the ball in midfield, he crossed
the ball over to Simon who, with the keeper rushing out,
managed to lob the ball over him and into the net.
As well as dominating possession, Rams were also making
use of the space available, something which had been a
weakness of theirs over the past couple of games. This
particular move led to their third goal. Ridgeway picked
up the ball on the left hand side and after beating his
marker on the byline, he managed to pull the ball back
to Savage, allowing him to slot the ball home. In the
38th minute, Ishtiaq Shahid got his name on the score
sheet. After running with the ball down the right, he
cut inside and curled the ball past the keeper and into
the bottom right hand corner. This gave USL a four nil
lead going into half time.
Everything was going well, but there was still a concern
for Kieran Fay. In previous games this season, his Rams
team have taken their foot off the pedal after earning
such a lead, allowing the opposition to slowly come back
into the game. Although Chalton never looked like threatening,
it was clear that USL had less urgency in their play,
as they wasted a host of chances and virtually tried to
walk the ball into the goal. When they eventually got
back to basics, it was no surprise that a 5th goal soon
came. Ridgeway was able to head the ball past the despairing
Chalton keeper following a cross from Shahid.
This goal led to USL creating more chances and playing
the kind of the football that they are starting to get
a reputation for. Brendan Fay had a few opportunities
to score, but his efforts were going narrowly wide. Romano,
who was desperate to get his first goal of the season,
was getting closer and closer, however his efforts were
going straight to the keeper. The miss of the day however
went to Savage who, after being put clean through, was
only able to shoot the ball straight at the keeper despite
having all the time in the world to choose his spot. This
effort successfully earned him the famed Orange jersey
for this week.
Eventually, Rams increased their lead to six. Carlo Romano
was finally able to celebrate after his shot from the
edge of the area went straight into the left hand side
of the goal (Cue Gazza's famed Euro 96 celebration lol).
This led to Rams dominating the final ten minutes and
in the process scoring four more times. Ridgeway was able
to grab his third after picking up possession, rounding
the keeper and slotting the ball home. A minute later,
Sean Maloney deservedly got on the score sheet as he grabbed
goal number eight after converting a cross from Shinkaiye.
Afterwards, Savage crossed the ball from the left hand
side, allowing Brendan to score with a bullet header to
make it 9-0. Charlie Betts then wrapped up the scoring
in the last minute, using his head to finish off a move
started again by Shinkaiye.

Rams 6 One Nation 1
|
Report sent
in by Rams - Ben Savage reporting (USL Rams 6-1 One Nation
- Match abandoned due to Violent Conduct)
Like most people, I have
had the pleasure of seeing many many football games in
my life, ranging from the Premier League right down to
grass root level. However, I can safely say that I have
never witnessed scenes in football like I did today. Just
over a year go, the FA launched their 'Respect the Ref'
campaign, with the aim to address unacceptable behaviour
on and off the pitch. Judging by today's game however,
the message had clearly not been sent to One Nation, who
did nothing but moan and argue about every decision the
ref made against them. Once the moaning turned into physical
abuse, the referee had no other choice but to abandon
the game with 5 minutes to go.
This is a shame because
the story of the match should have been about how USL
Rams put 6 past an otherwise good One Nation side, including
a hat trick for striker Terry Taverner. Rams made several
personnel and position changes to the team that beat Rhinos
last week. Goalkeeper Daniel Codey was handed his debut
by manager Kieran Fay and as a result, Carlo Romano was
moved up front. This was to cover for Simon Ridgeway,
who was unavailable for today's game. Areeb Choudhury
was given his first start of the season, which resulted
in James Whitty dropping to the bench. Finally, Colm Fay
and Chris Malone were named amongst the substitutes.
The hype for this game
had been building for the past week and all the players
were geared up and ready to go as they approached kick
off. The Rams proved just how ready they were for this
game by going 1-0 up after roughly 40 seconds. A break
down the right hand side of the pitch straight from kick
off led to Charlie Betts scoring with a bullet header
after a superb cross from Taverner. It was THE perfect
start because not only had it rattled One Nation, but
it also gave a massive boost to the Rams confidence. So
much so, that 5 minutes later, it was 2-0; Terry getting
his first goal of the game after converting a superb free
kick into the top right hand corner of the net.
One Nation were now in
total shock. They are genuinely not use to losing games,
let alone going 2 nil down after 5 minutes. However, after
a change of formation, they started playing the kind of
football which they are known for and, after pressing
the Rams defence for twenty or so minutes, they managed
to pull a goal back. A ball was successfully passed through
Kieran Fay in defence which allowed the One Nation striker
to coolly slot past Codey in the USL goal. Game on...
or so we thought. Terry had other ideas. Ten minutes after
this setback, he picked up the ball 40 yards out from
goal, ran past 4 players and poked the ball past the diving
keeper to make it 3-1. A brilliant individual goal which
again gave the Rams that two goal cushion they were craving
for. But they weren't done yet in this half. A few minutes
later, the Rams won an indirect free kick after One Nations
keeper inadvertently handled the ball outside the area.
Following the lay off from Terry, Brendan Fay blasted
the ball into the bottom corner to make it USL 4-1 One
Nation.
As Rams were celebrating,
One Nation finally lost their cool and surrounded the
referee to get an explanation for the previously awarded
free kick. This confrontation led to their winger and
their goalkeeper being sent off, both for dissent, with
the latter going as far as throwing the refs hat away.
(According to Craig Savage, this was actually the One
Nation manager... says it all really.) After ten minutes,
play resumed with the half time whistle being blown soon
after.
In the second half, USL
Rams seemed to take their foot off the pedal and allowed
One Nation to run the game for most periods, which was
impressive seeing as they only had nine men on the pitch.
Codey made a good save following a mix up in the Rams
defence and Charlie Betts put in a good shift by making
some good tackles just outside the area. Eventually after
70 minutes, USL were allowed to get a fifth after a defensive
error by One Nation. Terry was allowed to grab his hat
trick and 8th goal of the season after taking advantage
of a misplaced pass from their keeper and sending the
ball home. Colm Fay, James Whitty and Chris Malone all
came on at various times in this half, with the latter
scoring his first goal of the season within a few minutes
of coming on. Following a nice pass from the Rams midfield
to John Shinkaiye, he had an effort on goal saved by their
keeper. Unfortunately for them, it fell to the feet of
Malone who finished with ease. This was controversial
though as the linesman had flagged for offside against
John, but the referee overuled him.
This again led to One
Nation surrounding the referee, who did a fine job in
restoring order for the time being at least. However a
few minutes later, chaos started. Following kick off,
a One Nation player went right through the back of Chris,
thus making a professional foul. Before the referee could
officially send the player off, one of his team mates
unbeleivably attempted to punch him. Fortunately, it never
landed but it did leave the referee with no other option
but to abandon the game in fear for his own safety. It
was a very disappointing way to end the game because USL
had played brilliantly overall. In addition, the way that
the lads conducted themselves whilst all hell was breaking
loose around them is a credit to their discipline and
the game of football.
Its up to the league now
whether or not they give us the full result, but one thing
is for certain. There should be no place in any league
for a team who act in such a disgusting and dispicable
way.

RHINOS

USL
Rams 5 Rhinos 0
|
by Ben Savage
Goals from Simon Ridgeway (2), Charlie Betts, Terry Taverner
and Brendan Fay ensured that USL kept their 100% start
to the season intact as they beat Rhinos 5-0 at Barnfield
College on Sunday. Once again, the Rams put in a solid
performance to see off their league opponents and in the
process, managed to keep their first clean sheet of the
season thanks to a good defensive display.
For once, Kieran Fay had a fully available squad to choose
from. However, he opted to go with the same team who finished
last weeks game against Luton London, with the available
subs being Aaron and Dean Bradley, Areeb Choudhury and
Carlo Romano.
As with most games this season, USL controlled the match
right from the start. With most of the play going down
the wings through either Ishtiaq Shahid or John Shinkaiye
it wasn't long before the constant pressure led to the
first goal of the game. A corner taken by Kieran led to
the ball going straight through the Rhinos penalty area.
Brendan Fay then drilled the ball straight back in allowing
Charlie Betts to slot the ball home.
Following this, Rams continued with the pressure and as
a result, a second soon followed. 35 minutes in, Brendan
again turned provider as he carried the ball down the
line and crossed the ball over to give Simon Ridgeway
his first goal of the game. 5 minutes later, Brendan got
a goal for himself as he managed to put away a low cross
from Terry Taverner, who had picked up the ball from the
midfield.
So at half time, USL were leading by 3 goals to nil and
comfortably in control of the game. Would this continue
throughout the second half?
Well to an extent yes, although Rhinos did come out in
the second half looking much stronger and up for it then
they previously had done. As a result, the Rams had to
play on the back foot for the first few minutes. However,
it was clear to everyone that USL looked a lot stronger
unit defensively, as they successfully shut out every
opportunity Rhinos threw at them.
Eventually this pressure eased off and Rams were allowed
to push forward again. Chances were created and eventually
on the 65th minute, a forth was scored by Terry who after
being set up by Carlo Romano, buried the ball past the
Rhinos keeper to get his fifth goal of the season.
It was clear that the opposition were getting tired, but
USL were not finished yet. More opportunities were being
created. Dean Bradley could have to made it 5-0 after
receiving the ball out wide from Brendan, however his
effort went inches wide. Moments later, Kieran Fay had
a chance to increase the Rams lead by simply putting the
ball into an empty net from less then 6 yards. Unfortunately
for him, all he was capable of doing was producing the
miss of the season, as his effort went high and wide.
Oh dear.
Further opportunities fell to Brendan and Dean but finally
in stoppage time, Simon got his second and USL's fifth
of the game after sloting the ball home following a Sean
Maloney cross. The final whistle blew soon after.
So overall, another good win for the lads which keeps
them top of the table and full of confidence. With the
team in such good form, who knows what they can achieve
this season.
But lets not get too carried away. The real test comes
next week.

Luton
London 3 USL RAMS 7 (Centenary Cup
1st Round)
|
by Ben Savage
Where do I start?
On paper, it will simply say Luton London 3-7 USL Rams,
however that alone does not tell the whole story. It was
a game which came with its fair share of controversy,
goals, spirit but most importantly, a Rams win.
USL made only one change from the team who defeated Rising
Sun last weekend. Ishtiaq Shahid returned to play on the
left hand side of midfield, replacing Jairan Santana.
Kieran Fay started the game in goal whilst Craig Savage
was moved into the left back position. The match began
with both teams trying to figure each other out, resulting
in most of the play being controlled in the midfield and
only the odd half chance being created. Roughly 20 minutes
in however, Rams took the lead. Simon Ridgeway picked
up the ball on the edge of the area and after beating
his marker, drilled the ball against the post and into
the back of the net.
From then on, Rams got a hold of the game and started
pressing for a second with chances falling to Terry Taverner
and Ishtiaq Shahid. However both shots went agonisingly
wide. A few minutes later though, Luton were back in the
game. After conceding a corner, the resulting cross came
in for their striker to power a header past the helpless
Fay. It was a lack of concentration on USL's part and
the shock of conceding didn't seem to shake for a fair
while after. Inevitably, it resulted in Luton getting
another. A cross from the far side led to their striker,
once again unmarked, scoring a spectacular bicycle kick
from the edge of the area. The Rams were reeling, however
to their credit they started to get themselves back into
the game with more pressure being put on the Luton defence.
This then led to the first controversial incident of the
match.
Charlie Betts scored what seemed to have been a perfectly
good goal, however the linesman ruled it out for offside.
Following a protest from the USL players, James Whitty
was sent off for dissent. The Rams backs were now certainly
against the wall, but this incident seemed to fire them
up and as a result, they responded in the perfect way
with an equaliser 10 minutes before half time. Simon Ridgeway
converted his second goal of the game with a bullet header,
following a long throw from Craig Savage.
Unbelievably a few minutes later, USL went ahead. Following
a save from the opposition keeper, Craig directed a header
towards the top corner but one of the defenders decided
to use his hand to stop the ball going in. Amazingly he
wasn't sent off but nonetheless, Savage converted the
resulting penalty, wrong footing the keeper in the process.
The second half began just as well as the first had ended,
with USL asserting their authority and pressing the Luton
defence. Eventually this resulted in them scoring a fourth.
Brendan Fay picked up the ball in the midfield and threaded
through a pass to Terry, who had the skill and coolness
to lift the ball over the keeper and into the net. Following
this, Rams were full of confidence, with passes being
made all over the pitch. This led to the Luton defence
panicking and consequently, giving away a free kick on
the edge of their area. A confident Terry then curled
the ball right into the bottom corner to make it 5-2 to
the Rams. Not bad for a team who are down to 10 men.
But the goals didnt end there. With around half hour to
go, Brendan Fay managed to capatalise on a mistake by
the oppsition keeper and slot the ball past him to make
it 6-2. Soon after, the Rams were awarded another penalty
after a Luton defender caught the ball on the goal line.
Kieran Fay duly converted the spot kick.
Luton London soon got a goal back following an error by
Dean Bradley, who had picked up a knock at half time and
as a result went in goal. By this time however, it didnt
really matter. The day belonged to the Rams, who showed
the spirit and determination to turn what was a potentialy
difficult situation into a emphatic and deserved victory.
Treble anyone?

RISING
SUN Sept 20th 2009
|
|
Rising
Sun 1 USL Rams 3
|
by Ben Savage
USL Rams made it 3 out of 3 for the season with a comfortable
3-1 win against Rising Sun at Barnfield College on Sunday.
It was another good performance from the Rams who could
have (and should have) won by more. Nonetheless, the result
keeps the level of confidence high within the team and
more importantly, maintains the Rams position firmly at
the top of the Luton Sunday Football League.
Craig Savage returned from injury to take the number one
shirt from Carlo Romano, who was unavailable for today's
game. Otherwise, it is the same team who defeated LA Rovers
last weekend 4-2.
USL started the game on top and created many chances.
Good passages of play led to Dean Bradley almost putting
the Rams ahead after three minutes, however his shot went
agonisingly wide. Following this, chances fell to Brendan
Fay and Simon Ridgeway which led to the Sun's keeper making
a few saves.
Rams were certainly controlling the game. The only thing
that they hadn't done in the game up until this point
was score! So you can imagine the disappointment when
they fell behind to Rising Sun's first shot on target.
Following a Suns goal kick, the ball was picked up by
one of their players who ran about 30 yards before coolly
slotting the ball past a helpless Savage.
This rattled USL for a little while after. The free flowing
football which had preceded the goal had been replaced
by nervy defending and silly mistakes. The only thing
that could stop the rut was an equaliser and thankfully
this came soon after from Jairan Santana, following a
decent move from the Rams. The ball was played up the
field by Charlie Betts which was controlled superbly by
Simon Ridgeway. He then played the through ball to Santana
who drove the ball past the Suns keeper into the far corner.
This re-ignited the Rams and soon after they went ahead.
Dean Bradley converted from the right hand side following
a nice through ball from Terry Taverner to get his first
goal of the season. Following further chances by Simon
and Terry, the half time whistle went with Rams leading
by two goals to one.
Rams started the second half just as brightly as the first,
with more chances being created from all areas of the
team. One particular chance was started by Brendan Fay,
who sent the ball out wide to Dean. He then carried the
ball down the line and passed the ball to Terry who drove
the ball across the box only for Simon to agonisingly
miss the ball.
A few minutes later however, Rams wrapped up the game.
Terry picked up the ball from the midfield and following
a brief run, he played the ball through to Simon who slotted
away USL's third goal.
After this, Rising Sun went into decline. USL were not
only dominating possession and passage of play but they
were also creating more chances. The centre back duo of
Sean Maloney and Charlie Betts could have got a goal a
piece, as well as Brendan Fay, who was unlucky with his
long range effort. Dean and Aaron Bradley were linking
up well on the right hand side of the pitch and on one
occasion set up Kieran Fay, who should have scored. It
seemed that a fourth goal was simply not meant to be.
Despite not converting as many chances as what was presented
to them, the Rams can take heart that it was a great performance
overall and can now go into next weeks County Cup game
with London Luton full of belief that they can start that
competition as well as they have in this one.

LUTON
ROVERS Sept 13th
2009

Luton
Rovers 2 USL Rams 4
|
Terry
Teverner struck twice as USL Rams maintained their 100%
start to the season with a deserved 4-2 victory over Luton
Association Rovers at the Dog and Duck on Sunday.
It was a
spirited performance from a Rams side who are significantly
improving. Good passages of play met with controlled discipline
ensured that what was seen as a potentially difficult
game before kickoff was handled in a professional manner.
Rams made
one change from the side that beat Luton Renegades last
week. Brendan Fay came in for Craig Savage, who was out
with a quad injury. Charlie Betts went straight in at
centre back with Brendan replacing him in midfield.
The opening
exchanges were a tense affair, resulting in most of the
play going through the midfield as both teams were trying
to figure out each others style of play. With both
teams battling hard it took a rare lapse of concentration
from the Rams defence to lead to the first goal of the
morning. A poor clearance led to Rovers crossing the ball
from the far left and their forward striking the ball
on the volley in the bottom left hand corner of the goal.
This was
a surprise as neither keeper had really been tested. However,
to the Rams credit, they made an immediate response. A
throw down the line by Kieran Fay led to Terry Teverner
holding the ball up, turning the player and hitting the
ball first time into the far left corner. A superb goal.
USL started
the second half on top and after a few chances by Simon
Ridgeway and Brendan Fay, the second goal came within
minutes. A corner taken by Kieran led to James Whitty
heading the ball in on the line, making it 2-1 to the
Rams, a lead which at that point was well deserved.
This seemed
to kick Rovers into life and as a result, they started
to pile on the pressure. A range of shots led to Carlo
Romano having to make a few saves, his best one being
a dive to prevent a long range shot going into the roof
of the goal.
After this
the game seemed to even up a bit until Rovers landed a
corner on the far left side. The cross was met by the
head of one of their strikers who made it 2-2. Game on.
Rams responded
with two substitutions with Dale Holland and Ishtiaq Shahid
coming on for Dean Bradley and Simon. Following a few
more chances by both sides, Rams went into a 3-2 lead.
A blocked shot by Terry on the edge of the area led him
to go round the man with the follow up and square the
ball across the box for Jairan Santana to tap into an
empty net.
A few minutes
later the Rams wrapped up the game with a superb individual
goal from Terry. Having picked up the ball from the halfway
line, he passed 4 Rovers players before slotting the ball
past the diving keeper.
A great way
to finish a superb performance by Terry; however every
member of the side put in a positive display today. Honourable
mentions do go out to Brendan Fay, who persistently chased
everything down and never seemed to run out of energy,
as well as Carlo Romano who once again pulled off a string
of saves to prevent Rovers from increasing their goal
tally.
There is
still a long way to go this season, but if the Rams can
keep this level of performance up and constantly work
on the areas they know they can improve on, there is no
reason why they cant be amongst the title challengers
come the end of the season.

Renegades 1 USL Rams 3
|
After a long
pre-season break USL were ready to start the season and
for the first time had a full team. Rams got off to a
great start with a lot of possession with Renegades finding
it hard to get the ball off the USL players. After 15
to 20 minutes the breakthrough came when Kieran Fay ran
the ball from the back played a one two with James Whitty.
Manager Fay then carried on the run and played another
one two with Whitty with Fay putting in a hard low cross.
Sadly, it hit the defender and came back to him who then
banged it into the net.
After the goal USL kept
the pressure on Renegades. Jairan Santana put a nice corner
kick into the box. It was then flicked on by Charlie Betts
on to Craig Savages left foot, who put it in the
back of the net. Renegades were now on the back foot and
Santana went on a run down the left which was then taken
out on the edge of the box. Kieran Fay stood up to take
the kick, it looked destined for the goal but it was slightly
to high and hit the bar.
After the break USL started
slack and Renegades pilled on the pressure, The USL defence
was on top of the game who kept them out until Charlie
Betts got caught in possession which lead to Renegades
scoring their 1st goal of the season. For the last 20minutes
the game was evenly spread with both teams coming close
to getting their next goal. In stoppage time was when
the goal came with good play by Dean & Ben down the
right a shot from Terry was then cleared of the line straight
to Ben Porter who scored his 1st goal for USL.
Overall a good team performance
by USL and Kieran Fay could not have asked for a better
start to the season with taking a win from his 1st league
game in charge of USL.

Rams 3 Luton Renegades 3
|
Several key players were
missing from Rams' first pre-season match against Paul
Meaton's Renegades. The same dilemma was faced by the
opposition as well and today's match may well have been
abandoned. Rams made a bright start to the game, passing
the ball and creating some delightful moves. In the early
stages of the game, Rams had a few chances that just went
wide. A good run down the right from Sanatana lead to
the 1st goal by Liam Joy, putting a nice little chip over
the Renegades keeper. Rams kept the pressure up but were
caught on the counter attack and regendaes slotted the
ball past Savage in the Rams goal. Kieran Fay's men than
upped their game, which lead to a Rams corner. After three
attempts in a row, the ball from Fay into the box got
a flick from Liam Joy, on to the feet of Nathan Prime
who placed the ball into the back of the net. After the
restart Rams built on the pressure, which lead to another
Rams corner which Player Manager Kieran Fay crossed in
the ball which fell onto Prime's head, who then got the
ball to Jairan Santana who slotted it in to make the score
3-1 to the rams.
The second half started with a few Rams players playing
out of position as Manager Fay wanted to try new tactics.
Rengendaes got two quick goals after halftime which then
lead to Rams players going back to their original positions.
As the game went on Rams were showing a lack of fitness
near the end of the game. The game finsihed 3-3 it was
a fair result in the end.
1st game out of the way
and both Fay and Maloney can take a few postives out of
the game and we know that we can only build on today's
game.
