Renegades 1 USL Rams 5
|
| In a tense first half
USL started the better, followed by a good spell from
Renegades. During this period, a goal saving clearance
off the line from Kieran Fay. Rams took the lead with
a swift well worked move started by Louis Ebanks, and
finished by John Walsh after being assisted by Steve.
Renegades equalised through a free kick on the edge
of the box.
As the second half started, USL finally took control
of the game. Ruffie Abdul Aziz had two volleys saved
by the Renegades keeper. Gavin Ebanks came onto the
field making an immediate impact, giving USL added
impetus in attack, shooting narrowly over. A long
ball from Kieran Fay picked out Steve on the edge
of the box, who chipped the keeper exquisitely to
make it 2-1. Good defensive work kept out the Renegades
strikers and a reaction save from Ryan Walsh from
a defensive header which nearly ended up in Rams net
kept the score as it was. USLs third goal came
from Louis Ebanks setting off Kamrul Haque down the
right, who then cut the ball back to Junaid Azfal
who turned and shot into the net off the inside of
the post.
Kamrul Haque then put a ball through to Ruffie Abdul
Aziz who then rounded the keeper and deservingly got
his first of the season. Gavin Ebanks then took a
splendid free kick from 25 yards out, which the keeper
tipped onto the bar rebounding to Junaid Afzal who
volleyed home for his second and USLs fifth
to make the final score 5-1 to USL.

ANOTHER
CUP HEARTACHE
March 29th 2009
|
|
One
Nation 3 USL Rams 2 (League Cup Final)
|
Both teams met for the first time this season and
no one knew what to expect. Nation and Rams are
flying high in the league but Rams do have four
games in hand and could solidify the runners up
position. Today however, their mission was to win
the 2009 League Cup Final and avoid the runners
up position. It was a lively encounter with both
set of fans enjoying the beautiful game in the Easter
sunshine. Though no goals came from the opening
45 minutes, Nation missed opportunity after opportunity
to take the lead. Rams keeper Colm Fay made several
classy saves to keep Rams in the game and the best
was a tip over the cross bar, which from distance
was looking good in going in.
In the second half, against all odds, Nation took
a 3-0 lead. Rams Manager Kamrul Haque must have
thought it was time to throw in the towel. However,
it's at this stage that the Rams began to play in
the style that has clinched victory over the mighty
on several occasions this season. The first goal
came from a Pavel Iskra penalty, which Nation Keeper
Aziz Miah had no chance in saving. It was perfectly
taken as Iskra sent Miah the wrong way and with
such force. Rams piled on the pressure after that
and minutes later grabbed their second goal from
Junaid Afzal. A high cross from the left seemed
to be going out but Afzal 'the German Stallion'
directed the ball into the net with a well taken
header. With seconds ticking away, Rams did everything
they could to take the game into extra time but
Nation were brilliant in defence and held the ball
well in the dying seconds.
There were jubilant celebrations at the final whistle
but Nation had to fight hard for the win. Had there
been a further 10 minutes remaining on the clock,
things may have turned out different but the day
belonged to Akthar Miah's One Nation. Rams will
now be aiming to beat them in the league twice and
finish above them come the end of the season.

SUPER
RAMS TOPPLE SAINTS TO REACH THE FINAL
March 8th 2009
|
|
USL
Rams 5 St Johns 3
|
Both
teams were fighting for a place in the final, so both
teams gave it their all in this epic match. Rams were
knocked out of the Beds FA Centenary Cup Third Round
by the Saints and today was revenge time. St Johns
started the brighter in the opening exchanges, followed
by good possession from the Rams. The first goal came
when Junaid Afzal thread through a neat reverse ball
for Jaja Santana to nip in front of the keeper, and
knock it passed him to make it 1-0 to the Rams. After
a while St Johns equalised from a corner which broke
to the edge of the box, and a misdirected shot was
poked in by a St Johns player to bring the scores
level. At this stage, St Johns had a chance cleared
off the line from Asif Khan from a corner. Colm Fay
also pulled out a brilliant save at this crucial stage
in the match. St Johns managed to break down a USL
move and countered swiftly, scoring a splendid goal
from the move putting them 2-1 in front. USL Rams
came back strong with a brilliant run down the left
from Pavel Iskra, who then set up Junaid Afzal to
get his first of the game, leaving the game poised
at 2-2 at half time.
Early
second half pressure from USL led to some good chances
one of which brought out a great double save from
the St Johns keeper, from Pavel Iskra and
Jaja Santana. The Rams finally took the lead early
in the second half when Junaid Afzal tackled a St
Johns defender on the halfway line, and ran
through on goal slotting calmly passed the keeper.
USL then went 4-2 up when Louis Ebanks dispossessed
another defender and finishing clinically in the
same style as the previous goal. USL Rams then took
a three goal lead with another ball from Junaid
Afzal to Jaja Santana, who beat two players and
fired into the top corner. St Johns tried
to pile on the pressure in the last ten minutes,
but Colm Fay pushed two late efforts onto the bar
and post. St Johns managed to get a late consolation
when they were awarded a penalty which they converted
to make the final score 5-3 to the Rams. Great performances
all around the park made it difficult to pick a
Man of the Match, but the players dug deep today
and got the reward they deserved with many match
winning performances. Manager Kamrul Haque was please
with the performance and attitude of all the players.
Rams can be a tough opponent when they set their
hearts on it.

SAINTS
DO DOUBLE OVER RAMS
Feb 22nd 2009
|
|
St
Johns 4 USL Rams 1
|
In a crucial game for both teams,
USL started well in the first half. Overall the first
half was pretty even, but USL did have the better
of the opportunities. First was a cross-field pass
from Junaid Afzal which put Jaja Santana through on
goal, who narrowly fired over the bar from close range.
Then came a well worked move from Paul Iskra on the
left, who cut it back to Louis Ebanks, whose thunderous
shot brought out a fingertip save from the keeper
onto the crossbar. At the end of the half USL was
caught napping as St Johns scored just before the
half time whistle.
Second half, the Rams were exploited as St Johns
found them outnumbered on the wings, therefore taking
full advantage of this. Rams heads dropped, as the
majority of the second half was played in the USL
half and counter-attacks were broken down easily.
St Johns scored two in quick succession, and then
a fourth putting the game beyond any USL fight back.
Jaja Santana scored a late goal and USL saw more
of the ball in the last 15 minutes, but it was a
little too late. In the second half Rams lacked
ideas, with the lack of movement causing us to make
no more than three passes in a move. Also Rams dropped
their heads after the third goal. If they want to
compete for the top spot, the whole team will need
to keep motivated throughout the 90 minutes. Rams
can bounce back from this, but they need to start
playing as a team again.

RED
STAR GET THEIR REVENGE
Feb 1st 2009
|
|
Red
Star 5 USL Rams 3
|
|
Red Star Luton avenged their 4-2 defeat
to USL Rams in December with a 5-3 win at Barnfield.
The game had everything and gave the spectators watching
one of the games of the season. The game got off to
an explosive start when a misplaced clearance fell
to Jafa Razer in the first minute. He unleashed a
half volley that flew over Red Star's Dean Ashton
and into the top corner. Red Star afterwards started
to win the midfield battle, but it was USL creating
the chances and Junaid Afzal had 2 opportunities but
these were snuffed out by Ashton. on the 20 minute
mark Red Star won a corner. Amar Daved delivered in
an inch perfect ball and centre-back David Mitchell
buried home his 4th goal in 5 games. Red Star dominated
the rest of the half and good work from Danny Rowlatt,
on for the injured Ben Jefcoate, saw former USL Captain
and USL Galacticos Manager Peter Wilson fire home
past Colm Fay. The second half started in a similar
vain and 5 minutes in Rams were awarded a penalty
after Dan Taylor tripped Jaja Santana in the box.
Paul Iskra stepped up and his well struck penalty
was saved by Ashton, but the rebound fell kindly to
Iskra who slid the ball home for 2-2. From the restart
Red Star attacked and won a free-kick from the edge
of the box. Amar Daved stepped up and curled the ball
past Fay to make it 3-2. The Reds continued attacking
against the wind, and Amar Daved fed through Luke
Potter. Potter still had lots to do but turned inside
2 players before smashing home for a classy goal.
The game got scrappy and with 20 mins left Gavin Ebanks
was sent off for Rams after a push. To Rams credit
this spurred them on and they made it 4-3 after a
defensive mix-up saw Santana slide the ball under
Ashton, who should of saved the shot. Red Star pressed
on and Wrapped up the game when Ricky Howe fed in
Sub Paul Power to rifle home the 5th goal.

THE
COMEBACK OF THE SEASON
Jan 17th 2009
|
|
USL
Rams 7 Wheelwrights 3
|
On a muddy
and dull afternoon, Rams got off to the worse start
they could have possibly imagined. In the opening
10 minutes USL were a goal down and still in snooze
mode, with Wheelwrights getting 3 bites in the box
and finally put the ball away. After missing a couple
of opportunities to get back into the game, Wheelwrights
increased their lead with two goals in quick succession.
It seemed like there was no way back for USL as
they were 3-0 down as the half time whistle blew.
Second half, USL came
out fighting to stay in the title race and played
their best half of football this season. First a
dubious penalty put away by Pavel Iskra, followed
by a brilliant run from Pavel who then crossed for
Junaid Afzal to head home to bring it back to 3-2.
The next 15 minutes
were tense as the Rams created chance after chance
but were either saved by the keeper or they shot
over the bar, all from close range.
Then finally came a
superb counter led by Jaja Santana, and then finished
by him too. By this point the Rams were defending
well presenting just one opportunity to Wheelwrights
in the whole half kept out by the keeper. Jaja Santana
then put the Rams ahead with another cool finish,
followed by another headed goal from Junaid Afzal
this time from a Santana cross. Pavel Iskra then
got his second with a well worked goal to make it
6-3. The icing on the cake was from a 30 yard free
kick from Kieran Fay from a tight angle, picking
his spot in the top corner, with the keeper picking
the ball out of the net making the final score 7-3
to USL Rams.
Outstanding second
half performance, we finally woke up at half time
and got stuck in. It puts a true meaning to the
phrase a game of two halves

NINTH
WIN OF THE SEASON
Jan 17th 2009
|
|
USL
Rams 4 Luton Renegades 2
|
Two late second half
goals made sure the Rams maintained their unbeaten
run and the ecstasy that greeted the final whistle
is testimony that now and till the end of the season,
its all about points. Though Much improved Renegades
made life hard, Rams were matching them both in
possession and skill. Pavel Iskra and Gavin Ebanks
both went close but were denied entry by some good
defending by the Renegades. Rams grabbed the first
goal through Jafer Raza but were behind 2-1 after
errors at the back. Both sides continued to counter
attack but none tested each others keepers with
maximum threat.
The second half began
same as the first and midway through Rams deservedly
got the equaliser by a Louis Ebanks goal. After
that Rams had the game under control and never looked
losing. With the match seemingly drifting away from
the Renegades, Kamrul Haque's men began playing
in the style they are renowned for. No nonsense
counter attacking football, leaving as much energy
possible for the last 20 minutes. It worked against
Red Star before Christmas and they did the same
again today. With the linesman canceling out two
goals, he had no choice about the other two. Infact,
Renegades supremo Paul Meaton, referee at the time
ignored the linesman and rightly allowed the goal.
Gavin Ebanks found the net for the ninth time this
season and Brendan Fay scored his second of the
season with a slender execution beyond the keepers
reach.
Overall, Rams were
the better side but take nothing away from Renegades.
Under Meaton they are shaping up to becoming a good
outfit. Junaid Afzal's presence was immensely missed
and Rams will be hoping the German Stallion will
be back from a knee injury in time for Wheelwrights
next week.

USL
Rams 4 Red Star 2
|
A thriller
at Barnfield saw two rivals fight it out to the
final whistle. Red Star and the Rams had been slagging
each other off in the pre-match friendly banter.
Most of Red Star are either ex-Rams players or playing
for USL's Saturday team, the Galacticos. Nearly
three quarters on the field are in someway connected
to the USL family. The first half began with Rams
facing the sun, purposely chosen by Captain Mujahid
Zaman after winning the toss. Knowing the threat
Red Star can pose, Rams went out as underdogs and
with the belief they have nothing to lose. The opening
quarter saw Rams starting the brighter side and
took the lead when a seemingly harmless long ball
was sent over towards Josh Mwaisama. Red Star defender
Ben Agar-Hutton lost his balance and allowed the
debutante to slide the ball home. It looked like
Red Star would pull one back when they were awarded
a penalty after Pavel Iskra climbed all over Peter
Wilson. Ricky Howe, who has scored 7 out of 7 penalties
for the Reds, sent new Rams keeper Colm Fay the
wrong way but the ball hit the post and the goalmouth
scramble that followed only raised a corner. Red
Star midfielders in particular Matt Brunton and
Ricky Howe kept trying to weave some magic but the
Rams defence did their job. Ryan Walsh and Mujahid
Zaman played their hearts out and Asif Khan made
several inch perfect tackles to keep Dean Ashton's
men frustrated. 1-0 at half time.
The
second left off from where it began and with five
minutes gone, former Rams hotshot Ben Jefcoate got
an early Christmas present. After a mishap by Zaman
and Walsh, Jefcoate picked up the ball and blasted
it into the back of the net. Keeper Colm Fay had
no chance in stopping the thunder of a shot. Brendan
Fay got Rams back in the lead after he scored his
first goal of the season. Red Star tried to play
the offside but weren't successful. Both teams weren't
happy for a draw and the two managers urged their
men to go for the win. Red Star then pulled it back
to 2-2 when good work from Luke Potter set up Wilson
to rifle home. At this stage of the game either
team could have scored but as the minutes rolled
on Rams gave it all they had. With the game finely
poised Rams made it 3-2. Iskra was played through
and won a foot race against Dean Ashton before sliding
the ball past Michael Ellingham, who was slow off
of his line. Rams secured the win following another
shocking piece of defending. Poor communication
lead to Rams springing the offside trap again and
Iskra bagged his brace.
Red
Star Manager Dean Ashton said "I'm absolutely
gutted with the way we've played today. USL wanted
the game more and in the end were deserved winners.
We gave them too much time and space and were punished.
We wasted a few chances and were on the wrong end
of 2 borderline offsides in attack. We gave too
much ball away and defended very poorly. Ultimately
though This loss falls down to me getting it wrong
tactically today. I don't think I gave the team
the confidence to play well and take full responsibility
for the loss. I've got players like Brunton, Wilson,
Howe, Potter and Jefcoate and if I struggle to motivate
them or give them the encouragement to perform then
I need to take a serious look into where I went
wrong today and make sure it doesn't happen again.
Again I'd like to say well done to USL who played
well. After today they have made it a 4 horse race
for the title."
A delighted
Rams manager told USL Web "We came as underdogs
today and left as title contenders. My two new signings
were influential in today's performance. Colm Fay
reminds me of a certain Schemichel and Josh made
a superb debut on the right of midfield. We missed
Sean Maloney, Jairan Santana and Gavin Ebanks but
the newcomers performed their role splendidly in
a win I won't forget too quickly. Red Star proved
to us just how good they are and it makes me feel
proud that we matched them at their level. Sometimes
you need to play the big boys to measure your own
capabilities. Going into Christmas the Rams camp
is very merry".

TAYLOR
GOING TO RED STAR
Dec 20th 2008
|
|
Defender
Daniel Taylor is joining Red Star for the remainder
of the season. Taylor who has been superb at left
back feels that his chances of silverware are higher
under Dean Ashton rather than the Rams. A disappointed
USL owner Shakayet Hussain told USL Web "Taylor
was one of my jewels in the side and his desire to
move on has shocked me deeply. But that's football
and you have to take the blows and move on. I am sure
my manager will find a good replacement and one before
the season resumes after Christmas." Taylor has
been instrumental in making Rams the season's dark
horses and with Red Star doing well, the title edges
closer to Dean Ashton's hands.

lead the post once again stopped it from happening,
this time the unlucky player was Jairan Santana.
Rams finally got the breakthrough they deserved
from a through ball from Santana, which Gavin Ebanks
calmly put away from the edge of the box. 1-0 at
half time to the Rams.
Second
half started brightly but gradually Rams slowed
and Saints moved up a gear. With Santana failing
to clear the line Saints pounced to grab the equaliser.
Minutes later they went into the lead 2-1, which
shook the Rams. Huge celebrations erupted as a cross
from Gavin Ebanks found elder brother Louis, who
slotted in the equaliser. Than in the dying seconds
USL could've snatched the winner, only to see Santana
unlucky not have beaten the Saints keeper one to
one.
In
extra time, not much happened in the first half.
In the second, an own goal scored by Dynamo Sean
Maloney and goal scored from what appeared to be
offside ended 4-2 to Saints. They have won the first
of four battles this season. Two in the League and
one in the League Cup remain.
"We
deserved to win the game as we had more of the possesion
and chances. Saints are a very good side but so
are we. Everyone in the Rams camp have come to realise
that we are definitely dark horses so far this season
and with our best eleven we can match any team in
the league. I will work hard to eradicate the notion
that if you take the lead you can sit back. We did
it and we paid a hefty price today. Ideally we should
have moved a gear up and aimed for the second goal.
It's Derby Day this Sunday when we face our good
friends Red Star. Both clubs have a strong USL connection
and will be a great morning out".

FACE ST JOHNS IN CENTENARY CUP
Nov 10th 2008
|
The
draw for the Beds FA Centenary Cup Third Round was
made earlier this afternoon at Century House. USL
Rams have been drawn home to St Johns. Both teams
play in the Luton Sunday Football League and from
results St Johns are clear favourites to go through.
Saints have played more games than the Rams and
currently occupy the top spot. It was a fixture
Rams were hoping to avoid. Secretary Shakayet Hussain
told USL Web "I would prefer to play them (Saints)
in the final as we were hoping to create a good
run in the cup. Having said that cup games do pull
the odd surprise. We have dismissed Hallmark in
the last round and we went in as underdogs for that
match. We are looking forward to the match as I
am sure Saints are too"

Rams 5 Hallmark 3
|
This was the Rams best
performance to date. Against an opponent coming
into the match flying high in their league. For
the opening quarter of an hour, Kamrul Haque's men
were trying to get grips of the game. However, Hallmark
came out and controlled the game's tempo and style
of play. Deservedly they went 1-0 ahead and as a
result woke the Rams up. This cup tie wasn't going
to be a stroll in the park. To play in Round 3 you
have to earn it and if you don't raise your game,
it's all over. That was the message shouted out
from the USL sideline.

Photo
- Minute silence
Junaid Afzal duly responded
by picking the ball up from half way and running
like a stallion, blasting the ball past the Hallmark
keeper. It's one of Afzal's best goals for the club.
At half time the score was 2-2 and knowing that
the wind will be behind them, Rams were filled with
confidence and went out with the utmost belief that
an upset can be done. At 5-2, Rams knew they were
on the verge of kicking out one of the best teams
in South Beds and a silly last second goal made
the scoreline seem respectable. 5-3 it finished.
Though, the result
could have been greater, Kamrul Haque will be delighted
in his defence, especially Mujahid Zaman, whose
love for the club saw him going into tackles others
wouldn't dare. It was a majestic performance by
the big man who is playing in his fourth year for
USL. Jairan Santana and Pavel Iskra tore the Hallmark
defence on more than one occassion. Gavin Ebanks
had chances to bury the game but the youngster was
very unlucky. He hit the woodwork on two occasions
and found the wind turning his shots away from the
target. Next week is the league cup match against
Team BYL and after today's performance, Kamrul Haque
should go into the match confident.

SCORELINE RECORD
Oct 26th 2008
|
|
USL
Rams 15 Rising Sun 0
|
With eight
men Rising Sun never had any chance of winning and
keeping the score lower than ten would seem respectable.
For up to an hour they were odds on in doing just
that but towards the end Suns faltered. Brotherly-duo
Antonio and Jairan Santana put on a terrific display
of individual talent, whilst in midfield Louis Ebanks
and Jafer Raza done well to keep most of the possession.
Rams defence is probably one of the best in the
league and today they never looked in any serious
trouble. Suns had a few good spells and went close
to scoring but they lacked the cutting edge to find
the net.
Kamrul
Haque will be happy with the scoreline especially
as goal difference may decide final standings come
the end of the season. Furthermore, after last week's
below par refereeing from Declan McCabe, today he
did well to regain respect from the Rams. To be
fair, both teams got on with their game and never
brought the game into disrepute. If only football
can be played like this week in week out.
Highlights
of the game includes saw Sean Maloney scoring twice
from defence. Maloney was desperate to get into
the USL stats book that went for some awkward challenges
in order to find the net. Infact at 12 nil, majority
of the players wanted to get on to the score sheet,
none more so than Kieran Fay. He went close on a
few occasions but in the end the Santana's made
sure the day belonged to them.

USL
Rams 3 AC Cadoza 2
|
In a one-sided
first half, USL did everything but find the back
of the net. The Rams played like a well oiled machine,
but just lacking the finish their hard work deserved.
Paul Iskra dazzled passed defenders with ease on
many occasions, once even rounding the keeper only
to miss the target from a tight angle. Chances also
fell to Jaja Santana, Louis Ebanks, and Mohsin Kazmy,
but were all either denied by the keeper or narrowly
missed the target. In the closing stages of the
half, Cadoza had a man sent off, and went on to
hit the post from a tight angle as their only chance
of the half, but showed the counter-attacking danger
they possessed.
Second half started
well for the Rams with a well worked goal as Daniel
Taylor laid a through ball to Junaid Afzal, whose
cross was met by Jaja Santana from close range.
Cadoza were back in the game after a dubious penalty
decision had cost USL a goal, and before long Cadoza
had taken the lead as a player was left unmarked
in the box from a cross. Rams
were desperate to take advantage of the extra man,
so played three at the back to keep the pressure
on Cadoza.
Then came efforts for
Junaid Afzal, and Jaja Santana, but we still couldnt
find the net. Paul Iskra was determined to get on
the score sheet, and finally got his reward with
a well driven free kick from a stupendous distance,
to find the corner of the net. Soon after, Rams
were ahead as Antonio Santana was played in by his
brother, slotted home calmly to make the final score
3-2 to the Rams.
Credit to the team
as they fought well and some players were playing
out of their favoured positions as well, namely
Mujahid Zaman playing in goal to help the team in
all departments. A bitter taste was hanging from
the game as a couple of Cadoza players had used
intimidation tactics as things werent going
their way, playing unfairly throughout. Taunting
a few of the USL players, going in late on challenges,
and shouting foul him, foul him, foul him
on an occasion where a Rams player was dribbling
with the ball.
One player went as
far as taking off his shirt whilst advancing aggressively
towards a Rams player, but the Rams player walked
away while the Cadoza player had to be ushered away
by his own team. The referee had later admitted
that he did not book the player at the time as he
felt that would have caused them to kick off.
USL Rams players
should be proud for keeping the discipline throughout
the game, concentrating on playing their football
rather than getting involved.
A performance the manager
was very proud of in many ways.

Borough 3 USL Rams 6
|
After
a disappointing start to the season, losing 4-2
away to Luton Warriors, USL Rams blasted Luton Borough
6-3 and head in to the second round of the Centenary
Cup. Their opponents are Hallmark from the North
Home Counties. Within 10 minutes of the start a
cross by Gavin Ebanks found Junaid Afzal and the
Stallion just could not miss. The second came on
the half hour mark when Jairan Santana curled the
ball past the borough keeper from an acute angle.

Louis
Ebanks grabbed the third after Gavin Ebanks and
Jairan Santana exchanged some fancy passing on the
edge of the box. Louis Ebanks scored his second
of the season by cleverly placing the ball to the
bottom left. Borough than got a goal back early
in the second half but in the 60th minute, Paul
Iskra ran through the middle and slotted in his
first Rams goal of the campaign. Borough than grabbed
their second by a clever lob over keeper Abdul Aziz.
Gavin Ebanks stepped up for the penalty in the 67th
minute and the striker sent the keeper the wrong
way and made it 5-2. Though Borough scored their
third, Junaid Afzal scored his second on the 77th
minute and prevented any last minute nerves. A powerful
performance from a new look Rams team.

WARRIORS
HOT FOR NEW LOOK RAMS
Oct 5th 2008
|
|
Luton
Warriors 4 USL Rams 2
|
On a cold wet and windy
day, the Rams started their season a month after
everyone else. A steady start while players were
still getting acquainted to each others play. The
first goal came with some indecision at the back
when clearing, but Warriors took full advantage
slotting home from close range. Rams then went on
to have a few good chances to level, but were unfortunate
not to score.
First a glancing header
from Jaja Santana just wide, then Louis Ebanks was
through on goal, but fired just over. Warriors then
hit Rams on the break and scored from a brilliant
long range effort to make it 2-0. Jaja Santana then
brought out a good save from the keeper, as did
Jafer Raza forcing the keeper to push the ball onto
the post. Kieran Fay also saw a long range effort
saved by the keeper.
Second half started
badly for Rams after Warriors had scored a third
with half an hour left to play. This was a wake
up call for the Rams, as they bombarded the Warriors
goal with chance after chance and it seemed as if
it was not going to be Rams day as they could
not find the back of the net.
Jaja Santana finally
got the breakthrough with a well taken goal from
a well worked move, assisted by younger brother
Gavin Ebanks. Louis rifled a penalty into the roof
of the net to make it 3-2. Rams were well in this
game now. As they pushed to get back into the game,
Warriors caught them on the counter, and forced
a couple of excellent saves from keeper Aziz.
Late opportunities
came but some excellent keeping had kept the score
at 3-2, Kieran Fay also saw a free-kick go narrowly
wide. After another chance went begging for the
Rams, Warriors hit them on the counter again with
a 4 against 2 situation and couldnt do anything
but score to make the final score 4-2 to Warriors.
Overall a lot of positives
to take from this game, although not the way Manager
Kamrul Haque wanted to start the season. With 8
of the players in todays squad being defenders,
a lot of players were playing out of position. The
players seemed to gel more towards the end of the
game, but credit to them as it was the first time
many of them have played together in a new look
team.

FIRST
MATCH EXCITEMENT Oct
2nd 2008
|
After all the hype
and tension during pre-season, the Rams are ready
to begin their season in the Luton Sunday Football
League. Kamrul Haque has signed upto 21 players
for the tough season ahead. Some have come from
the Galacticos squad to lend a much needed hand.
Pavel Iskra, Daniel Taylor, Kieran Fay, James Royle
and Tony Simpson have all joined in Rams's plight
and will do their level best to aid USL's Sunday
team to higher milestones than last season.
On paper, the Rams
are far better than last year's squad. In goal they
have Abdul Aziz who returns after a season out.
The former Brache Sparta keeper was a regular under
Steve Blackhurst's USL some two years ago. Miah
is a clever keeper and one who rarely makes errors.
Scoring past him one on one is a tough mission.
By reading the play intelligently he's never too
shy in letting his defence know where they are failing.
In defence, Rams have
Mujahid Zaman, a.k.a The Rock. Zaman has been and
will be the Rams most passionate player. This season
he will play alongside former favourite Sean Maloney
and one of the rising stars of USL Daniel Taylor.
Not forgetting the majestic Kieran Fay, who is a
no nonsense player. And if that's not all, there
is young Shaz Khan, who as left back is hard to
beat. Tony Simpson may not play in all of Rams's
games but he has been brought in to lend much needed
experience to the talented back line.
In midfield Pavel Iskra
will occupy the left of midfield and Jairan Santana
the right. Both these players have learnt their
style in their homeland and over the last season
have enhanced their play by adopting the British
system a.k.a the sensible approach. Iskra has already
stamped his reputation as a first team regular for
the Galacticos for his sheer brilliance on the ball
and Santana for his eye for a death pass. In central
midfield, Jafer Raza will once again resume his
bull dog spirit, whilst Louis Ebanks inserts that
much needed tension upon the oppositions defence.
Ryan and John Walsh can play anywhere from the goal
line to the halfway. Both of them will provide Rams
the intelligent play most teams thirst for. Up front
are boys who have become men. Gavin Ebanks appears
to have regained his hunger to prove that he can
achieve the playing ambitions he so dearly held
whilst a youngster. Young Ebanks will aim not only
to become Rams's top scorer but to match the likes
of Ben Jefcoate of Red Star and Abdul Taheed of
One Nation. Junaid Afzal will also try to emulate
Ebank's desire to flourish. The German Stallion
rarely gets the green light to play upfront until
now, his desired position. He too will be trying
to stamp his reputation as a permanent Rams striker.
Lets not forget, Lee
Benjamin, Tajul Islam, Antonio Santana, James Royle,
Jonathan Delaney, Mohbub Hussain, Shamim Miah and
Asif Khan. All these players will be trying to impress
Kamrul Haque and aim for a regular place in the
team. USL Co-owner Azad Ali told USL Web "With
so many new faces, it's a total fresh new start.
Red Star and One Nation maybe early favourites but
just how good we are can only be judged on results.
I don't care how we play as long the results say
three points." The other Co-Owner Shakayet
Hussain stated "Peter Wilson has weaved his
magic in the Saturday team and it's time to see
what Kamrul Haque can do. I am chuffed with the
signings made and pray that they capture the heights
Peter's men have reached. I wish them all the best."

5
WEEKS TO GET HOUSE IN ORDER Sep
2nd 2008
|
Last season was a
campaign to forget, especially when your backroom
staff is in disarray. It was enough for one man,
Co-founder Shakayet Hussain, who only recently returned
back to the Rams, after a series of confrontations
which saw players leaving.
Shakayet Hussain told
USL Web "I am a man who loves football very
much and aspire to become the best at what I do.
Not only on the field but off it as well. Along
with the board, we have made USL, the East of England's
leading Adult Club of 2007. We must have done something
right to receive such an accolade. However, what
I found on the field was the exact opposite. Players
don't realise just how important it is to be respectful
towards fellow team mates, referees and officials.
Whether players like it or not, they are not bigger
than the club. To be frank, the players who left
are not good enough for USL and I am glad they have
left. Most are asking for a return but we will never
take them back."
"USL have a fantastic
reputation of playing the game fairly and with respect.
Last year several Ramstars forgot that and I had
to intervene. It was an experience I would like
to forget and never repeat. Hence, why this season
I have decided to have a bigger say in the Rams
camp. Sometimes as Co-Owner, you have to lay down
the law for the sake of the club's reputation. We
have five weeks before our season starts and already
we have signed some pretty big names. Sean Maloney
and Daniel Taylor to name a few. I am really looking
forward to this season because all in the Rams Camp
are voicing unity and hunger for silverware. It's
a trait I havn't seen for along time."

Rams are away to Luton Borough FC in the first round

with better players on board, Kamrul Haque is adamant
his team will perform better. |
